Doctors are prescribing antidepressant medication today more than ever before.

 

Antidepressant usage started to rise in the 1990s, when a new antidepressant class of drugs came on the market called SSRIs. Zoloft, Paxil, and Prozac, some of the most well-known antidepressants, fall into this category. SSRIs are usually considered safer and have fewer side effects than traditional tricyclic and MAOI antidepressants.
